ST. PAUL, Minn. — A 24-year-old former substitute instructor faces felony expenses after she allegedly had intercourse with a 17-year-old scholar.
Caitlin Thao was charged in Ramsey County earlier this month with third-degree felony sexual conduct. Courtroom paperwork state police started investigating Thao, who was a full-time in-house substitute instructor at an unnamed college, in late February after complaints have been made about her “inappropriate” habits towards college students.
Faculty officers instructed police the sufferer, who had been in an English language learner class that Thao labored in, mentioned he had “shared a non-alcoholic drink” together with her and “she might have messaged him on social media,” in line with the felony grievance. Thao quickly resigned.
In mid-March, the sufferer instructed police he had intercourse with Thao, whom he mentioned had been “overly good” to him and communicated with him over messenger apps. The grievance states the sufferer claimed Thao “known as him good-looking and would flirt with him,” and the sufferer flirted again “as a result of she would purchase stuff for him and his mates.”
The sufferer mentioned the sexual encounter occurred inside a center college classroom in February, courtroom paperwork state, and he alleged Thao later invited him to her residence for extra intercourse when her husband was away, which the sufferer turned down.
The felony grievance states Thao’s husband found what had occurred in early March and contacted the sufferer’s mother. The following day, Thao reportedly admitted the sexual encounter to a Areas Hospital social employee.
Police say Thao “didn’t reply to a number of requests” for an interview. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.
Thao faces as much as 15 years in jail if convicted.
