MESA, Ariz. (AP) — The Chicago Cubs launched reliever Carl Edwards Jr. and infielder Dominic Smith on Sunday.
Edwards and Smith had been in camp on minor league contracts.
The 32-year-old Edwards was making an attempt to make the Cubs’ roster once more after he broke into the majors with the workforce in 2015. He spent the final two years with Washington, going 7-6 with 4 saves and a 3.07 ERA in 89 appearances.
Edwards missed most of final season after he was positioned on the injured checklist in June with proper shoulder irritation. However he regarded wholesome in spring coaching, posting a 1.35 ERA in 6 2/3 innings over seven appearances.
Smith performed for Washington final season, hitting .254 with 12 homers and 46 RBIs in a career-best 153 video games. He batted .346 (9 for 26) in 9 Cactus League video games with Chicago this yr.
The Cubs have 34 gamers — 16 pitchers, 4 catchers, seven infielders, six outfielders and one infielder/outfielder — left in main league camp. They go to Texas on Thursday for opening day.
