When the Borderlands film bombed on the world stage, it barely managed to scrape again its advertising and marketing finances, not to mention what was spent securing the likes of Cate Blanchett and Jack Black. However Take-Two Interactive ZEO, Strauss Zelnick, would not suppose it did lasting injury to the online game franchise from which it was tailored.
Zelnick spoke to IGN forward of the corporate’s Q2 earnings name in the present day. Whereas he admitted “clearly that film was disappointing,” he prefers to deal with the truth that it “truly bought extra catalogue“. Nonetheless, the top honcho is not nervous, believing the Borderlands IP to be resilient: “I do not suppose it damage in any respect, if something I believe it could have helped just a little bit. It highlights one thing that I’ve spoken about many occasions: the problem of bringing our mental property to a different medium.”
In case you missed it, Randy Pitchford, founder and CEO of Gearbox Software program, the developer behind Borderlands, memorably in contrast the studio, following the film’s abysmal launch, to The Beatles, insisting that even arguably the best band of all time solely had a couple of 25% hit fee.
